Role: Level Designer.
Rsponsibilities:
- Design and build POIs in the open world from scratch, including
- 2D&3D Level Layouts
- Route Design
- Combat Pacing
- NPC Encounters
- Fragment Narrative Design
- Loot Drops, etc.
- Designed and built 10+ POIs (levels) independently, including
- 1 large-scale POI featuring battle and puzzle solving
- 3 medium POIs featuring parkour(exploring), narrative, and puzzle solving
- 6+ transit levels in the open-world big map
Highlight:
- In the level design process, I focused on a mountain valley area where POIs were moved to cliffs. Leveraging the protagonist’s spatial abilities, I maximized vertical space and cliff terrain, creating POIs for rich vertical gameplay.
- Core gameplay involves vertical parkour, space puzzles, and combat. Balancing vertical space utilization while controlling player rhythm posed a major challenge.
- Through multiple level designs and iterations, I made breakthroughs. The primary approach included continuous game testing (self-testing, peer reviews, and internal testing) to validate gameplay. Insights from feedback were crucial, like strategically arranging gaps for floating platform jumping rhythm, placing enemies based on sight and inertia, and using mini goals/visual attractors to guide player attention.
